The Benefits of Dental Implants
Proven and Reliable
Implant therapy is a clinically proven, state-of-the-art dental technique which has been scientifically tested and used for over three decades worldwide. Today, almost every patient who is missing teeth is a candidate for dental implant treatment.
Comfort and Quality of Life
Dental implants can positively improve your quality of life. Missing teeth can take away from who you really are, often causing reluctance to smile or speak. Dental implants are permanent replacements for teeth and offer the best replacement for missing teeth, improving your overall quality of life.
Quite simply, dental implants look like natural teeth. But more than that, implants preserve your jaw bone and facial structure. To maintain bone structure and keep surrounding teeth stable, teeth must transmit chewing forces to the jaw. Too long without teeth and bone will recede and facial appearance will change. Missing teeth can also cause other teeth in the mouth to begin to drift changing a smile further, as well as a bite.
Dental implants can be cared for and cleaned like your natural teeth. In fact, they absolutely should. They should be brushed, flossed, and require regular checkups just as your natural teeth do. It’s a good practice to be conscientious of your oral hygiene, and perhaps you won’t need as many implants!
Dental implants transmit chewing forces to the jaw bone, which prevents bone loss from missing teeth. The implant itself actually mimics a natural tooth root, and the jaw bone will grow and bond to the implant surface. Without an implant, once enough bone is lost, the patient may no longer be a candidate for implants, lacking the structure to support the therapy.
Maintain Adjacent Natural Teeth
A very common solution for missing teeth is what’s called a bridge. In this treatment, adjacent teeth to the missing one are shaved down so that they can support this bridge. Though this is a much less expensive alternative, it is at the cost of potential bone loss, shifting teeth, and structure of the supporting teeth. If possible, we definitely recommend the implant therapy for long term oral health.
Dental implants are designed to last a lifetime. At Station Dental we only use Straumann and Nobel Biocare brand implant systems – two of the worlds leading companies in dental implant research and development. Our implant crowns are made in-house and utilize only the longest lasting and most durable materials, many times never needing replacement.
Dental implants look and feel like natural teeth. No extra attention is required other than what your natural teeth need.
